We are excited to announce that the 2013 Engineering, Construction and Manufacturing Summer Camp will take place June 17-21 at Diablo Valley College. High school students will earn 1 unit of college credit for five days of participation. To register for the camp, please visit: www.cococostemsummercamps.org.
The 2012 summer marked the eighth year that Diablo Valley College hosted the annual Engineering, Construction and Manufacturing Summer Camp. The camp offers summer enrichment opportunities for high school students and teachers to explore theory and practice in a week-long activity that blends hands-on exploration, field visits in industry, problem-solving and expert industry viewpoints.
Over the years, approximately 460 students representing more than twenty-five high schools in Contra Costa County have enrolled in the camp which is made possible by a collaborative effort on behalf of Diablo Valley College, the Contra Costa County Office of Education and the Contra Costa Economic Partnership Workforce Initiative. The culminating camp event consistently draws attendance from approximately 120 audience members consisting of students, parents, teachers, industry participants, college faculty and administrators.
High school students and their parents are often not aware of the educational training paths and job opportunities available in the Building Trades, Construction and Engineering industry sectors. Diablo Valley College works with secondary, ROP, community college and industry partners to maximize resources and link secondary and post-secondary programs in order to encourage high school students to consider post-secondary education and careers in the targeted industry sectors. Enrollment is limited to sixty students and ten teachers on a first-come, first-served basis.
