1. What’s the best way to connect with Disability Support Services at DVC for students who are graduating from high school in June, and meet eligibility requirements?

What you need to do . . .

Complete your application for enrollment to DVC on-line www.dvc.edu. 2) Mail in your "signature page" and you will be e-mailed your Student I.D. number. 3) Arrange to take the English and Math placement test in the Assessment Center. Students eligible for extra time should contact the Student Service (101) in Advance by calling 925-969-2184. 4) Register in Admissions and Records for a Counseling 105 offered by the DSS Program.

2. Who is eligible for services?

Students with acquired brain injuries, developmentally delayed learning, learning disabilities, hearing impairments, visual impairments, speech impairments, psychological disabilities, mobility disabilities, and chronic health conditions may qualify for services.

3. How can I find out if I have a Learning Disability?

Students who suspect they have a learning disability, but who have not been tested should meet with a DSS Counselor in the Counseling Center to discuss their situation. Schedule an appointment to see a DSS counselor in the Counseling Center by calling 925-969-2185 or at the Counseling Center front desk during regular hours.

4. How do I sign up with Disability Support Services?

If you are a continuing or returning student to Diablo Valley College and/or DSS you must begin by scheduling an appointment with a DSS Counselor in the Counseling Center 925-969-2185.

If you have a Learning Disability or Attention Deficit Disorder you can schedule an appointment with a DSS counselor in the Counseling Center.

5. What types of services are offered to DSS students.

Depending on the student's disability, services include specialized instruction, adaptive equipment, mobility assistance, American Sign Language interpreters, note taking, textbooks on tape, testing accommodations, educational counseling and planning, priority registration, and specialized tutoring.

6. What do I do if I need an ASL interpreter?

Schedule an appointment with a DSS Counselor in the Counseling Center by calling 925-969-2185. Bring in a copy of your most current audiogram for the counseling appointment. Contact Sue Garcia by calling 925-682-0340 (TTY) or 925-969-2185 (Voice) for an ASL interpreter for your counseling appointment.

7. Are service dogs allowed on DVC's campus?

Yes, trained service dogs are permitted on DVC's campus.

8. How can I get class handouts enlarged?

Schedule an appointment with a DSS Counselor in the Counseling Center by calling 925-969-2185. Bring in your documentation verifying your disability and the DSS Counselor will explain the procedure to receive Alternate Media services.
