This course is a survey of United States history, after 1865 to present, emphasizing women's life experiences within the context of larger historical changes. Students will examine the commonalities of women's experiences and explore the impacts of race, class, gender and region on women's lives. This course will explore how women fostered and were affected by social, political, economic, and cultural transformations in the United States. The impact of the U.S. and California Constitutions and the activities of federal, state, and local governments on the experiences of women will also be covered.
